Indigenous Voices in Social Work: Not Lost in Translation. This inaugural conference will focus on the intersection of social work and indigenous peoples and will be held June 4-7, 2007 at the Makaha Resort on the Waianae Coast of Oahu.

This conference is designed to bring together diverse people committed to indigenous practice and research. By combining ancient wisdom and new paradigms we will journey together on a road steeped in life affirming culture and rich in healing practices. For years native peoples have been told what is best and what is most important. The answers, however, do not lie without but instead lie within our people. May our voices be heard as we shape and influence the course of social work education and social work practice.

Call for Submissions
‘Ike ~ The planning team invited proposals for workshops, papers, roundtable discussions, and poster sessions that address conference themes. We encouraged creative and innovative submissions that reveal indigenous worldviews, illuminate native practices, and reflect local values. We believe that the accepted proposals have expanded our collective ‘ike (wisdom) and will serve as a context for a rich and provocative discussion.
